A Year of Travel

I am prone to the plans I make falling through or some sort of disaster preventing them from happening and causing me to have to change tack altogether. This has been the case for quite some time and so I’m almost a bit afraid of the word plan. Using it tends to jinx my ‘you know whats’ and so, if I’m honest, it’s hard to believe that I’m writing this post from our hotel in Koh Samui. (Although, getting here hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing. You can read more about that here). So much has happened since we first decided we were going to go on this adventure that both of us have had our doubts as to whether we would actually be able to make it happen. But here we are, and we really want to do our best to lean into this experience and get everything we can from it.

We have budgeted for a year of travel which, if all goes well, will take us to 19 countries across 4 continents. Here is our itinerary as it stands although we are just booking as we go so this is likely to change as we make our way through the list! We want to have the freedom to stay somewhere for longer if we love it, and equally leave somewhere sooner if we don’t.

Thailand 1 month
Laos 2 weeks
Cambodia 2 weeks
Vietnam 1 month
Bali 2 weeks
South Korea 2 weeks
Japan 2 weeks
East Coast Australia 6 weeks
New Zealand 1 month
Canada 1 month
West Coast USA 1 month
Mexico 2 weeks
Guatemala 10 days
Nicaragua 10 days
Colombia 2 weeks
Peru 2 weeks
Chile (Patagonia) 1 week
Argentina (Patagonia) 1 week
Brazil 1 month

We are currently in Thailand, the first country on our list, and we aim to be here for around a month. Right now, we are in Koh Samui, then later this week we will be heading to Ko Tao and Ko Pha Ngan. We are then hoping to go to Kanchanaburi, Chang Mai, Pai and Chang Rai on our way to Laos.

We hope you enjoy following along with us on this once in a lifetime trip of ours. If you have any suggestions of things to do/places to see for any of the countries we are going to comment below and let us know your recommendations!

good luck and have fun guys! We are heading to Thailand in December and hitting up a lot of places you are! You’ll love Japan! It’s one of the best places in the world, you may end up extending! Highly recommend akihabara, Kyoto and Hiroshima for the museum!

    1. Hey Danny, good shouts for our time in Japan! Always looking for suggestions! So far Thailand has been great, if you’re coming to the islands down south we highly recommend Koh Tao! Great food, people and if you want to do any diving it’s cheap and the sites are amazing!
